Mid Century Modern Look

Who can forget the Brady Bunch house? I loved that show (still do!) and loved the look of the clean, simple design in the architecture and in the furniture. Large windows with no curtains have the feeling of being with nature. It was so hip for its time using bold geometrics and strong graphics too. Now the Mid Century Modern look is back and being seen everywhere you look.

Tulip tables and chairs, sunburst clocks and mirrors, Sputnik lights are all reminiscent of that era making for functional comfort and chic style. Let’s not forget the bold color combos. There aren’t a lot of rules when it comes to pairing colors for midcentury design.

Classic hues like mustard, avacado and tangerine together are embraced. Bold turquoise with red accents makes a statement that you are not afraid of color.  So go on and embrace your inner Brady.

Start with some lamps and a sunburst mirror or dig in, be brave and try hanging a Sputnik light over your Noguchi table in the new living room. Or paint your kitchen turquoise and get that tulip table and chairs. Don’t forget the red cushions!

  1. It’s a nice professional looking webpage with lots of colour. The article is also very interesting and teaches me something about interior designing. I like the pictures showing the examples of that style of interior design and the fact that there is the convenience of links to the sales of some of those furnishing. But I do think that the Amazon links look a bit out of place at the bottom of the pictures. Is it possible to have them beside the pictures for comparison?

  2. I love the Noguchi table, although I had no idea it actually had a name! Thanks for educating me :) I have such spring fever and the images on your site make me want to run out and update (or backdate?) the look of my home.
How do you think it would look to mix mid century with more contemporary furnishings?

  3. Interesting post. I like the pictures you added of the modern rooms with the furniture. If I could interior decorate I would do something like seem in these pics. I can’t decorate well, I’m not creative. But it is neat to see what can actually be accomplished. I had no idea these pieces of furniture existed, but it is a cool idea.
